College of the Mainland theatre majors will hark back to the glory days of radio theatre April 26 at 7 p.m. with a public show featuring action-packed “Flash Gordon” “The Shadow,” “Sgt. Preston of the Yukon” and “Frontier Gentleman” episodes.
Students will step up to microphones and relive classic episodes complete with sound effects. The show is open to the public and a "pay what you can" event.
“It’ll be a lot of fun. We hope to take it to the senior home across the street later in the semester as well,” said H. Russ Brown, COM theatre artistic director.
MyBayArea Radio will live broadcast the show.
Last semester COM launched live radio theatre with spooky Halloween hits and a free production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” garnering rave reviews at COM Theatre and at Elmcroft of the Mainland Senior Living Community in Texas City.
COM’s Theatre Program prepares young artists through a long-standing tradition of producing exceptional, quality theatre. Throughout the school year, students have opportunities to perform on stage or work in technical positions while learning from our highly qualified faculty and staff and from professional actors and designers on the COM Community Theatre main stage.
